Network for Capacity Building and Knowledge Exchange in
Transportation Operations Management

More than just placing course materials on computers and the Internet, eLearning represents a paradigm shift regarding how universities approach teaching and learning. eLearning encourages a restructuring of traditional educational settings where courses are often teacher-centered and students acquire information by reading texts and listening to lectures and assessments are based on the retention of facts. In the restructured setting of eLearning, students' learning is extended beyond fact retention through challenging learning activities that require critical thinking and the development of knowledge situated within a context that is useful and meaningful to individual students. In the eLearning design, student achievement is assessed using a combination of practical applications and rigorous examinations. This workshop presents an approach to eLearning through five units.
