WSU's Center to Bridge the Digital Divide
(CBDD) is an outreach organization founded by WSU
Extension in 2001 to help underserved populations improve their quality
of life using information technology. We accomplish this through facilitating
collaborative partnerships, providing educational outreach, research, and
policy guidance.
Community
Leaders from all Washington State Horizons sites met in Moses Lake for three
days of LeadershipPlenty Training and Public Relations Training. The workshop
took place as part of the Horizons Project
directed by the CBDD's Doreen Hauser-Lindstrom

Comcast Local Edition host, Steve Mumm, interviewed WSU Extension Rural
Bridges, Co-Director, Monica Babine, about our ways to increase information
technology-enabled work in rural communities. The program aired in December
2006 to an audience over 100,000 customers in the Inland Northwest during
CNN Headline News.

Rural Bridges team Dee Christensen and Monica Babine presented at the
Rural Conference 2006 in Portland, Oregon on November 7. Their presentation

Communities Connect is
a Statewide Network focused on supporting and advancing community development
in Washington State through the use of community technology. Hundreds of
community organizations across Washington State utilize technology to help
their clients meet their goals, which range from increasing grades and graduation
rates for youth, to higher wages and new careers for adults.
Wiki Wednesdays are short one hour phone and online gatherings to help people
get comfortable using the Communities
Connect wiki. All you have to do is be at your computer, online and
call in. We'll walk through the wiki, practice using it and have some fun.

Michael VanHenley of the Digital Learning Commons, has been a valuable
partner for the CBDD's efforts in Afghanistan. On his recent trip to Kabul,
Michael wrote an exciting account
of his experiences flying kites with friends in Kabul. Michael is pictured
here on the left holding a purple kite. On the right is Dr.
Ryan Sain of the CDDD, deputy diretor of Global Networks and the Afghan
