Conclusion and Summary
This part of the module has focused on providing basic understanding to the concept of ICTs and specifically telecommunications. It is believed that at this juncture learners should comprehend the theoretical frameworks of information revolution and the information society and the role of telecommunications and ICTs. In this part of the module, we have identified the growth of the information sector, the telecommunication revolution and the various technological trends that drive this revolution. We have identified the various components and uses of ICTs. Learners are encouraged to study these potential uses and identify how the various ICT components can be used or have been used in their respective countries. This part has also identified the various elements and technological advancements that have contributed to the telecommunications revolution.
This part also introduced learners to the telecommunications landscape in general, noting the development of the African market. A rudimentary discussion on the Internet was provided; learners will encounter more technical and detailed discussion on this in other modules of this programme. However, it is believed that at this stage, learners are ready to confront more complex issues of ICT policy and regulation. |
