Demodulation or Detection

Demodulation is the inverse process of modulation. The modulated wave signal is transmitted to a receiver at the receiving station. Then information components are extracted from the carrier signal (recovering information). The process is called demodulation. We can simply say demodulation is the recovery of an information signal from the carrier wave. There are a lot of AM and FM detectors in use. AM detectors include; basic diode, single sideband and product detectors to mention a few. FM detectors include phase shift discriminator, the ratio detector, phase locked loop demodulator and pulse detectors.
