Study Activities The following activities should be completed within one month of commencing with TR506 (not more than four weeks). All submissions must be posted before the last Friday of each month. Study the Telecommunications Act governing the telecommunications sector in your country. What measures has your regulator established to pursue social interests? List these measures,the name of your regulator and post your answer to the discussion board.
Explain how politics enters the regulatory arena. {(See especially Hays (1981)}. List examples where government reversed or influenced a regulatory decision. Paste your answers on the discussion board.
Does your regulator fulfill economic functions? List and paste these functions on the discussion board.
What role can regulators fulfill in the development of technical issues or technology? Visit your regulator and list ways in which it fulfills technical regulation, advances innovation and attempts to improve the performance of operators? Paste your answer on the discussion board. List the enforcement and implementation tools available to your regulator (as per the telecommunications act) . Have they used any of these tools? Decsribe the context in which they used the tools. Read all the other submissions pasted on the discussion board, and compare how your regulator differs from listed regulators in terms of social, economic, political and technical regulation. Present a summary and post it to the lecturer.
